Cogsult Services
Most consulting engagements blur the line between consultant, vendor, and customer responsibilities. Cogsult defines them.
Cogsult works directly with your vendor, and with your internal teams to ensure needs are properly Discovered, Designed, Delivered, and Deployed. Where your team carries a lead role below, that's intentional: implementations succeed when the client is invested, not just informed. It's accountability built into the model from day one.
Cogsult is also available for fractional LIMS leadership and long-term retained engagements, ideal for organizations that need ongoing senior-level expertise without the commitment of a full-time hire. Whether you need a few hours a month or a dedicated part-time presence, the engagement scales to fit your environment.
Every engagement follows my 4D Engagement Framework: Discover, Design, Deliver, Deploy.

Already Running WinLIMS or eLIMS?
If you're already running WinLIMS or eLIMS, you don't need another vendor conversation. You need someone who knows the platform cold.
I implemented WinLIMS as a customer, helping to define their Protocol and Stability Management module. From there, I spent more than 25 years on the vendor side, at the company behind WinLIMS, leading implementations, professional services, and solution architecture. I've configured this platform for pharma, environmental, food and beverage, chemicals, and manufacturing labs, and I've seen firsthand what separates a smooth rollout from a struggling one. It's almost never the software itself.
Where this usually helps
- Configuration that never quite matched how your lab actually works
- Validation gaps or 21 CFR Part 11 / GxP compliance concerns
- Upgrades or migrations between versions
- Workflows that feel slower or clunkier than they should
- Getting more out of a system you've already paid for, instead of starting over
Proof, not promises
- Helped define WinLIMS' Protocol and Stability Management module as an early customer, before ever working for the vendor
- Led a WinLIMS rollout across 7 countries and 6 languages for a specialty chemical manufacturer, 150+ users, still in production 20 years later
- Delivered a 2024 eLIMS implementation for a pet food manufacturer in under 4 months, with a deliberately simple, KISS-first design
- Spent 25+ years on the vendor side in implementation, professional services leadership, and solution architecture, across pharma, environmental, food and beverage, chemicals, and manufacturing labs
WinLIMS and eLIMS are products of Confience. Cogsult is an independent consultancy and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Confience.

04 / FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Cogsult do?
Cogsult is an independent LIMS and lab informatics consultancy. I help labs select, implement, validate, and get more out of their LIMS, working alongside your vendor and your internal team rather than replacing either. My approach follows a four-step framework: Discover, Design, Deliver, and Deploy.
Are you affiliated with any LIMS vendor?
No. Cogsult is vendor-independent, and I don't take referral fees or commissions from vendors. That neutrality matters most during vendor selection, when the goal is the right fit for your lab, not a particular product.
Do you work with LIMS products other than WinLIMS and eLIMS?
Yes. Over 30 years I've worked alongside a wide range of LIMS products, through vendor evaluations, competitive selections, and client environments, and I've seen how different systems approach the same lab problems. The core work, like requirements, selection, project oversight, and validation, applies regardless of the product. WinLIMS and eLIMS are where my hands-on product expertise is deepest, from more than 25 years on the vendor side.
What industries do you work with?
Pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, environmental and water, contract testing labs, chemicals and manufacturing, and food and beverage. Each has its own regulatory demands, from 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP 5 to ISO 17025, NELAP, HACCP, and FSMA 204.
Can you help us choose a LIMS?
Yes. I run structured, vendor-neutral selections: workflow-based requirements, a realistic shortlist, scripted demos using your own data, reference checks, and a total-cost-of-ownership comparison. My LIMS vendor selection guide walks through the full process. My free VendorFit 4D™ Solo tool is a good place to start.
Do you build integrations or write code?
I define integration requirements, coordinate the vendor and IT teams who build them, and make sure they're tested and validated. The one area I build hands-on is reporting, in tools like Crystal Reports and Power BI.
Can you help with an audit or a 21 CFR Part 11 review?
Yes. I review Part 11 scope, audit trail configuration, electronic signatures, and validation documentation, and I can help you prepare for an inspection. No system I've delivered has ever failed a regulatory audit.
How does billing work?
There are two options: hours as needed, billed at the standard rate for the time used, or a prepaid CogBlock™ at a discounted rate.
What is a CogBlock™?
A CogBlock™ is a prepaid block of consulting hours at a discounted rate, and the larger the block, the bigger the discount. You can draw it down on any Cogsult service: reports, enhancement specs, training, or project support. Terms are set per client.
Do you work remotely or on site?
It depends on the project, and we settle it during scoping. Much of the work can be done remotely, and we plan on-site time where it adds the most value, such as requirements workshops, go-live support, or audit preparation.
How do we get started?
Schedule a free 30-minute consultation. We'll talk about where your lab or project stands and whether I'm the right fit, with no obligation.
