1. Selecting a LIMS before defining your workflows
Software can't fix a broken process. It just automates the chaos. Map your workflows first, then evaluate vendors against them.
2. Underestimating the data migration
Legacy data is messy. It's inconsistent, incomplete, and sometimes just wrong. Teams routinely budget 10% of the time this actually takes.
3. Treating validation as an afterthought
In regulated environments, validation isn't a checkbox at the end. It has to be baked into the project from day one. Retrofitting it costs twice as much and takes three times as long.
4. Leaving end users out of the process
The people who will live in the system every day are often the last ones consulted. That's how you end up with technically compliant software nobody actually uses.
5. Confusing go-live with done
Go-live is the beginning of adoption, not the end of the project. The labs that get the most value from their LIMS invest in what happens after launch.
